Meet NauticEd Instructor Dwayne Miner

“Instead of having the same view every day, what about living on a boat and travelling?”

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hi, I’m Dwayne from New Brunswick Canada.

I’ve been on the water from an early age, starting with rowboats and small power boats, also working with my father who was a commercial fisherman on larger vessels. As an adult my love of the water took me down a career path to become a Master Mariner, which enabled me to work all over the World.
When I married my wife Denice, she mentioned her love to live near the water. So I asked her, “Instead of having the same view every day, what about living on a boat and travelling?” She fell in love with the idea, so the plan was set in motion. Five years later we moved onboard our current boat Ransom our 49ft Hinckley and have been living onboard almost full time since 2019. Most of that time down in the Caribbean, where i became an ASA sailing instructor.
I have a very calm and patient personality and a passion for sailing, which bodes well in all aspects of teaching. I love nothing more than passing my knowledge on to students and watching their confidence and skill level grow.

Recently I was informed about NauticEd and after doing some research was very impressed with their view on competency!

I still work part time for my commercial company. Most interesting is in the Canadian Artic 72 degrees N, on an 8000HP ASD tug, where I also teach how to drive an ASD tug.
