Sea Scouts & NauticEd Program Overview

Welcome to NauticEd!

We’re excited for the opportunity to support the Sea Scouts’ mission to prepare and empower young people through boating!

NauticEd’s mission is to create safer, competent boaters through comprehensive and modern-day education techniques, blending online learning with on-water skill training and experience. In collaboration with Sea Scouts, NauticEd is primarily providing online theory and knowledge boating courses to Ships, Scouts, and adult volunteers. Additionally, we provide free resources such as free online courses, eLogbook, and a boating resume that we encourage everyone to take advantage of.

And please note that this collaboration is still in its early stages. While we’ve spent months planning with Sea Scout leadership, we fully appreciate that not everything “goes to plan”. As such, we welcome any feedback and suggestions on improving the program, and certainly let us know if you have any questions or issues.

Let’s get started!

Cheers,

Grant Headifen
NauticEd Global Director of Education

NauticEd + Sea Scout Collaboration

NauticEd and Sea Scouts share a core ethos: safety-first seamanship built on knowledge and real skills, responsibility, and respect. We both favor competence over credentials alone – advancing learners through structured programs and hands-on experience. And we develop competent skippers/leaders who can make sound decisions, care for their crews, and help others, while promoting environmental stewardship.

NauticEd is supporting the collaboration in 3 key areas:

  1. Equip the Leaders & Mentors

“Every Scout deserves a trained leader.”

NauticEd supports Sea Scout leaders and mentors with supplemental instructor training courses, online boating courses, and teaching resources—helping mentors of all experience levels deliver consistent, safe, and knowledgeable training.

  2. Small-Group Learning

“Strengthening Sea Scout advancement through structured learning.”

Ship leaders may use NauticEd courses as age-appropriate learning tools in leader-guided group settings. These materials are designed to enhance and supplement a Ship’s existing instruction and advancement goals.

  3. Individual Competence Pathways

“For Scouts preparing for leadership roles, careers, and lifelong boating.”

For Scouts building long-term boating skills and credentials, NauticEd offers discounted online courses, a free eLogbook, and boating resume tools to document experience and advancement. Scholarships are available to ensure access for all.

  • Additional resources include: professional chartering services, virtual reality training, and fundraising options.
