Supporting Details
Admin:
While NauticEd’s system offers a wide range of features, the Admin can use it as much or as little as needed (or not at all)! Simply, the features are available if desired or needed, but use is not required.
The Ship’s designated Admin is responsible for:
- Being the Ship’s point of contact with NauticEd;
- Access to the Ship’s main online “school” account;
- Admin view of signed up Scouts and their course progress (shared with Lead Instructor);
- As needed, sharing signup links or methods with Scouts and Volunteers;
- As needed, sharing the 25% off promocode for Scouts purchasing additional courses;
- And communicating any additional program needs or issues with NauticEd.
Lead Instructor:
Please note: a Sea Scout Lead Instructor is not an approved NauticEd instructor for adult programs. While NauticEd supports Sea Scout programs with online courses and resources, the programs are separate and distinct. If you’d like to become a qualified NauticEd on-water instructor, please contact us to discuss.
The Lead Instructor is responsible for the Ship’s training decisions regarding NauticEd online courses and resources for the Scouts and adult volunteers.
Upon sign-up, the lead instructor will receive free courses to get started.
- All instructors receive: Navigation Rules (Sail or Power)1, Emotional Intelligence, and Transformational Instructor
- Sailing Lead Instructors receive Basic Sail Trim1 + Introduction to Sailing
- Powerboat Lead Instructors receive Skipper Small Powerboat
Upon request, NauticEd can provide the Lead Instructor with additional courses to review and assess for their program as well as their own personal advancement – at no additional charge.
- Online Sailing Courses: nauticed.org/sailing-courses
- Online Powerboating Courses: nauticed.org/powerboating-courses
Training Options: Lead Instructors should follow the guidance of Sea Scouts. That said, instructors have two options with NauticEd online courses:
- Group instruction: A Scout lead instructor can go through an online course (as a group, on a screen).
- Individual Instruction: older Scouts can sign up and access their own online courses.
Adult Volunteers:
Additional volunteers who are involved in teaching the scouts.
- All volunteers can sign up with NauticEd to receive free courses1 and resources – using the link provided at setup.
- Volunteers responsible for actively training the Scouts (especially on-water) are also eligible to receive additional courses at no cost and by request of the Ship’s Admin/Lead Instructor: Navigation Rules (Sail or Power), Emotional Intelligence, and Transformational Instructor.
Scouts:
The Lead Instructor determines which NauticEd materials and approach is best for their Ship, following Sea Scout guidance.
- At the discretion of Scout Leaders and parents, all Scouts are welcome to sign up with NauticEd and receive free course(s)1, free logbook, and a boating resume.
- For individual advancement, Scouts are eligible for a 25% discount2 for any paid courses (with parent approval).
- The Scout can use the promocode given to Admin during the setup.
- Online Course Scholarship: Disadvantaged Scouts are eligible for a NauticEd scholarship for free online courses.
