About Grant Headifen

My vision for NauticEd is to ensure that families and friends get out on the water not only safely but with true COMPETENCE, confidently savoring every moment of their valuable time.

Achieving this means being the pinnacle of sailing and boating education—offering comprehensive multi-media theoretical instruction coupled with hands-on, on-the-water training through our global network of American National Standards Instructors. We steadfastly avoid becoming a mere certification mill; our focus is on delivering genuine competence, ensuring our students are well-prepared for enjoyable, real-world boating experiences.

Oh – I Do Love to be Beside the Seaside

January 10, 2011/by Grant Headifen

It’s an old song but it certainly rang the bells for me recently.  Over this last New Year’s break 2010-2011, my family, extended family, and friends that we call family all traveled to Matauri Bay in New Zealand for probably one of the best aquatic experiences one could imagine. Unfortunately, it was sans sailing cruising […]

Member Feedback makes it all worthwhile

December 21, 2010/by Grant Headifen

Here’s a great unsolicited email from a student below. Makes me all goosey that the incredible effort that we do is all worthwhile. Incredible to think that the sailing games like CatNED maneuvering game made such an impression. Certainly we advocate gaining practical experience – but it does show you what a little theory study […]

There are two types of Sailors

November 16, 2010/by Grant Headifen

They say that there are two types of sailors – those who have hit the bottom and liars. Well, with this blog, I can firmly place myself in type I. I believe the reason “they” (I never really know who “they” are) make this statement is to promote caution, that you’re never too immune from […]

Android Resume Update App Launched

October 21, 2010/by Grant Headifen

Want to Update your Sailing Resume on the fly (erh I mean dock)? Several students have asked us to implement the same iPhone Resume updating app onto the android platform. Well, we just couldn’t resist and so here it is – if you’ve got an Andoid phone just go to the “market place” on your […]
